Railway sleepers are a great option for the casual do-it-yourselfer, so if you’re considering doing some property development in your garden, looking into these wooden beams should be your first point of call. Made from sturdy, durable wood; sold cheaply, and coming in a standardised size, means that you will be able to use them for just about anything in your garden, whether that is a wooden pathway, garden decking, flowerbeds and bordering, or even furniture.

Railway sleepers can be purchased as used railway sleepers, in which case you are essentially recycling sleepers that have been exposed to the elements for a couple of years, or you can purchase them brand new, in which case they’re freshly cut wood like any other. The first option will, of course, mean that you will help the environment by recycling, but you also will be able to purchase them at a fairly cheap rate too.
