Timber Frame Buildings

Timber has been used in building structures for thousands of years. It has a number of benefits when compared to steel or block construction. An important example of this is the price. Timber frames is a lot cheaper to manufacture and to build than the steel framed buildings and block construction models. It is also a lot more versatile than alternative building materials, with it being a lot more easy to shape than masonry. The biggest advantage of timber framed buildings is the speed with which it can be constructed. Most builds using timber frames will take a couple of weeks before it will be water tight, where alternatively a brick building can take months, and a steel frame will cost multiple times more.

The main downside to timber framed buildings is the relative lack of fire safety. This isn’t really a problem in rural areas, as the chances of the fire spreading is smaller, but within urban environments, building with timber isn’t advise, particularly when they have a large number of floors.
