The Best Way To Fix A Splintered Door
It is expected for wooden doors to splinter. This can happen for many reasons, but usually it’s down to the door being slammed too hard or the door catching the sides due to the weather drying it out.
Fixing a splinter is a five step process, listed below. You will need – powdered resin glue, two putty knives and masking tape.
1) Take note of the manufacturer’s directions on the powdered resin glue and mix it with water.
2) Pry apart the splintered separations with the tip of a putty knife, then dip the tip of the other putty knife into the glue and insert the tip into the crack.
3) Pry up any other loose splinters with a dry putty knife, then dip the other knife into wet glue and scrape under the splinters.
4) Now it’s time to use the masking tape. Stretch the tape across all of the splinters, making sure to stretch tight and apply pressure to the splinters,
5) Using a damp cloth, wipe any wet glue off the door. Wait 24 hours for the glue to completely dry and then remove the tape.
