Caring for Wood Features
Wood features are displayed throughout the homes in the UK, whether they be doors, window sills, stair banisters, flooring and furniture. Wood is an ideal material for a long-lasting feature, as it can last for many decades without much change to its nature, unlike other materials such as PVC, linoleum and others, that have a real lifespan of just a couple of decades. however, in order to achieve this lifespan from your wood features, you will need to bear in mind a few things:
- Wood can’t be constantly exposed to water, which means quickly wiping up any spills inside, and using paint or wax/varnish in order to seal any wood that is outside and exposed.
- Repairing damage as soon as it happens will also help to prevent the risk of rot setting in, which means using some wood filler to cover the marks and then painting over it again to ensure no what gets trapped.
- Regularly (every few years) reapplying any protection to the wood will make sure that you’re not caught unawares.
